Hey guys, apparently LJ has an anti-spam program with a glitch in the code that's marking some journals as spam and putting them in Read-Only mode so you can't post anymore. Pi's and Alex's journals got hit with it. Mine doesn't seem to have been affected yet, but we'll know for sure after I post this.

Anyway, to get it fixed, go to "Account," and where it says "read only mode" (or somesuch), there's a link to fill out a form to let LJ staff know they have to fix this shit for you. I think it's under "suspension inquiry." Anyway, there's a question mark by the "read only mode" link that takes you to an FAQ about it.

FINALLY! Finally at last I finished doing the mood themes! You LiveJournalers won't notice much difference, as I "merely" made changes to the existing mood theme... because for years I have been unable to get it completely done right, due to LJ being a cow patty about certain pictures. When Dreamwidth had no issues with any of the same pictures (or any in the moodtheme at all), I knew LJ had to be doing something stupid. Finally found a workaround: I uploaded the problem pictures to my LJ scrapbook and copy-pasted them from there. Shockingly, it worked! /sarcasm

Gods, that was exhausting, though.

I have to say, I prefer Dreamwidth's mood theme editor to Livejournal's. On Dreamwidth, it only saves the changes you actually make. But on Livejournal, even one change and it saves EVERYTHING as though it were changed. IE, on the screen that comes up after hitting save, Dreamwidth lists only the ones that were changed, and Livejournal lists EVERY SINGLE ONE whether it was changed or not. Which is especially annoying as I think LJ's setup makes it fuck up. I keep having issues with LJ saying "that image URL is invalid" when it works just fine for Dreamwidth.

I have a problem. I've had it for months, now. It's a problem of Facebook losing its connection to LiveJournal and Tumblr. It works for a while, correctly updating to Facebook, then stops working. I keep resetting the connection when it fails, and it keeps failing. It's not password changes that's the problem, either.

What's worse, it's only on the Fayanora accounts. Alex has no problem with any of it on his Facebook, and never has. His Facebook never disconnects from Tumblr or LiveJournal. So why me? It's very annoying.

Does anyone know why the Twitter Connect account with LiveJournal keeps failing, and I have to keep going back to LJ and reconnecting it? It is very annoying.

Testing the new cross-posting text. While I'm at it, I will say that [livejournal.com profile] svaenohr (Pi/Pyrayton) is now also at [personal profile] svaenohr on Dreamwidth. He did so because LJ keeps crapping out on us, so this way his posts will be in two places instead of just one.

From journalfen/unfunnybusiness:

Yesterday morning, Livejournal announced that it had implemented release 86, which supposedly "fixed" and "improved" several features of the site. A little over 24 hours later, the complaints on the release post are still rolling in (around 800 comments worth at the time of this posting) concerning issues with the release. In fact, several users are encouraging others to contact the Better Business Bureau and find another journaling site to use. Now, this is the normal reaction to any given new Livejournal release, but this time, as Raylan Givens would say, it's justified.

So, what's all the hub-bub about? Well, as you may have noticed as a Livejournal user, the hover menu on a user's ID has changed significantly and certain browser add-ons like LJ Login no longer work. What you might not know is that there is now a random, but rampant privacy breech on the site. Several users are able to see the f-locked and the private entries of other users/communities even if they are not friended by or they are banned from that particular user/community. Not only that, but several users have been taken to another user's entries when they try edit their own. The same mix-up in redirects goes for the redirect to edit profiles, edit journal information/settings, managing userpics, and even checking your message inbox. To put it simply: certain users have complete access to another user's account.

Whether or not people will exploit this fact remains to be seen and the Livejournal staff has yet to comment on the issue.

You can see several reports of this bug here.

Please spread the word, and consider backing up your LJ and deleting any sensitive information (such as addresses and phone numbers) that you have in locked posts. Note that the LJ code changes have affected Dreamwidth imports but you can at least import your entries.

You can leave a comment on the Dreamwidth version of this entry if you like. The current comment count is comment count unavailable.

Somewhat annoying that both LJ and IJ only allow you to upload one userpic at a time, but Dreamwidth lets you upload multiple userpics at once. Annoying insofar as why can't LJ and IJ update their code? Okay, I get why IJ hasn't... InsaneJournal hasn't updated its code or layout for years, as far as I can tell. (And could really do with a layout overhaul.) But LiveJournal really has no excuse.
fayanora: flutterbyes (flutterbyes)
I have deleted some of the old userpics from my LJ that I don't use often, and replaced them with ones from my DreamWidth and my old InsaneJournal. Also, I have a paid Dreamwidth account now because I was tired of not being able to use as many icons on DW as I can on LJ, and also polls can be done on both now.

And anyone following me on InsaneJournal, my DW now crossposts to both LJ and IJ now. So for the first time in ages, my InsaneJournal will have new posts. :-)

I just turned on the setting to crosspost my LiveJournal posts to Facebook and Twitter, because I used to have public posts crosspost to Facebook a long time ago before it stopped working. It only worked when I posted from the web anyway, before.

I am not doing the same with comments, though. Comments are not being crossposted. Just my entries.

EDIT: Seems you can crosspost comments even when it's not default. But I won't be doing that in personal LJs. Just in communities, and only in public posts, and only if the comment is particularly awesome.

LJ now has a repost button!

Repost button: You can add a repost button that allows other users to share all or part of your entries on LiveJournal. Please note that you must disable auto-formatting to insert a repost button. This button is only intended for public entries (i.e., if your entry is marked friends-only and you add the repost button, the entry can be reposted publicly by others, although the original post will remain friends-only). In order to illustrate how this works, we've added spaces before and after brackets ("<", ">") below to avoid auto-formatting:
To add a simple repost tag, insert the following tag at the end of your post: < lj-repost button="Post this to your journal!" / >

To modify the text of the share button, use the following tag: "< lj-repost button="Modify your button text" >< /lj-repost >"

To enable reposting of an excerpt of your entry, insert the following tags: "< lj-repost >Here is an excerpt from my entry< /lj-repost >"

To modify the text of the repost button and enable users to repost an excerpt of your entry, insert the following tags: "< lj-repost button="Modify your button text" >Here is an excerpt from my entry< /lj-repost >"

This just popped up:
$10 coupon for your friends!
If you have a Paid or Permanent account, you can now send 10 of your non-Paid friends a $10 coupon. Your friend will be able to purchase a Paid Account for $9.95 (instead of $19.95) for one year by enrolling in our automatic payment plan or make a manual payment of $15 (instead of $25).
All Paid and Permanent accounts can send out the coupons by clicking here (it's also under Friends -> Holiday promotion in the site header)
You can also send to people not on your Friends list by manually entering the username in the field provided
If your friend declines the invitation, it will be returned to your available invitation pool and you'll be able to send to someone else
You can send the invitations until January 15th
As I have a Paid account, if you don't, and you'd like one of these coupons, please leave a comment in this post.

EDIT: Gave one to [livejournal.com profile] consortofvenus, one to [livejournal.com profile] seraphicideals, and one to [livejournal.com profile] yardpepper. Have 7 left.

So, I dunno if y'all remember this, and some of you are new friends, but a while back LiveJournal contacted me telling me they wanted to use one of my entries in the Customerssuck community for this book they were making to celebrate their first 10 years. (This entry.) I agreed, and when it was done, they sent me a thing so I could buy myself a copy of the book, and they also sent me an LJ gift certificate that I have decided I will use for a renewal of my paid account, come April. (And use the money I *would* have used for that to get a paid Dreamwidth account, assuming I have any money then, so I can crosspost to more than one other journal at the same time.)

Anyway, got the book today. It's a smallish hardcover book, 117 pages. And though I never would have paid money for a copy of it, it's actually quite interesting. An awesomely hilarious Metaquotes entry, a touching story about how a worker at a photo lab got a woman arrested for physical child abuse and the surprising happy ending (Here, here, and Here. Don't read if easily shocked.), and the surprising history of LiveJournal (LJ was Twitter before Twitter was!).

So yeah, pretty cool.

I was just reminded that LJ is using one of my posts in their 10th anniversary book. First an email from them telling me that the book is going through final editing phases, and then a $25 LJ gift certificate. My paid account is still good through April 2010, so I'm not going to use it for that. Trying to decide what to spend it on. It's one-time use only, sadly. I'm leaning towards getting a shirt.

Too bad I can't use it toward getting a paid DW account. :-)

EDIT: Poopy! The LJ gift certificate dosen't work with the shirts, since they do their shirts through another company. And I had a shirt customized with a Stephanie picture and my LJ URL on it. :-(

My Cosmo icon keeps coming up as someone else's icon, as a picture of the guy who played Aries, God of War in the Hercules and Xena TV shows. It's very annoying. When is LJ going to fix the glitch that does that?
